LLB, AAMINZ, LEADR
John Walton is a commercial barrister in Bankside Chambers in Auckland, specialising in construction law and infrastructure development. John is also on the AMINZ panels of mediators and adjudicators.
John started practice in Wellington (it surprises him how long ago), and after stints in London and Hong Kong, he returned to Auckland in 1995, going into partnership in one of the large national law firms in 1998. He went to the bar in 2003. It is the focus of John's practise to advise on large infrastructure projects, where the focus is on timely delivery, within budget expectations. Not surprisingly, he devotes considerable energy to keeping disagreements out of lengthy, costly and uncertain litigation.
Recent projects include:
- Contact Energy's Otahuhu B & C power station developments in Onehunga and the Te Rapa cogeneration project
- Watercare's Waikato River Water Source Project, and the undergrounding of the Hobson Bay sewer
- Northland Regional Council's New Event's Centre project
