Overview

1970s AMINZ started as a Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
1987 AMINZ was incorporated as the Arbitrators’ Institute of New Zealand.
1995 AMINZ accredited the dispute resolution papers offered by the Dispute Resolution Centre at Massey University for Associate membership admission.
1996 As a result of mergers with the Institute of Employment Arbitrators and Mediators and with the Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand, the Institute became the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ).
2002 AMINZ was appointed an authorising nominating authority to nominate adjudicators under the Construction Contracts Act 2002.
2004 AMINZ accredited the National University of Singapore’s course in International Commercial Arbitration for Associate membership admission.
2004 AMINZ accredited the University of Waikato’s dispute resolution diploma for Associate membership admission.
2007 AMINZ accredited the University of Auckland Faculty of Law’s dispute resolution papers for Associate membership admission.

  • To maintain public confidence in dispute resolution through the Institute’s Code of Ethics and disciplinary procedures for professional misconduct.
  • To facilitate training in dispute resolution and provide continuing professional development.

  • To promote continued growth and awareness of all dispute resolution processes.
  • To  maintain links with international organizations.
  • To provide up-to-date information for members on developments both nationally and internationally.
