Affiliate
This category of membership is suitable for persons interested in the practice of dispute resolution but who are not qualified for admission as an Associate or for persons who do not require a qualified membership status.
Affiliate members have access to membership services, including training, education, seminars and conferences, membership resources, newsletters and the members’ area of the website.
Associate
The AMINZ Associate syllabus sets out the topics which form the basis for the academic standard to be attained for Associate membership. These topics are taught at the Massey University Dispute Resolution Centre, the University of Waikato School of Law and the University of Auckland Faculty of Law.
For more information on the courses offered by the tertiary institutions, click on each university’s logo.
Admission as an Associate is by approval of the Council. Associate membership carries the designatory letters AAMINZ
Fellow
The Fellowship Programme consists of a preliminary interview, a one-day seminar, one three hour written examination on dispute resolution (arbitration or mediation), one three hour examination on awards (arbitration) or agreements (mediation), a one-day practical examination (final Fellowship test) and a final interview before a panel of two Fellowship Admission Assessors. The examinations are held annually. Admission as a Fellow is by approval of the AMINZ Council. Fellow status carries the designatory letters FAMINZ (Arb and/or Med)
Members who wish to study for Fellowship may choose to progress through the 300 level papers of the Massey University Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Dispute Resolution) since these papers cover the Institute's syllabus for Fellow membership. These papers teach skills relevant to both the conduct of an arbitration and a mediation and the writing of awards and agreements. The passing of the 300 level Massey papers is not mandatory for Fellowship as the Institute holds its own Fellowship examinations.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Qualified members (Associates and Fellows) are expected to continue their professional development by participating in educational events with the Institute and furthering their own knowledge and experience in dispute resolution. Associate, Fellow, Panel and List members who submit a CPD return to the Institute and fulfill the CPD requirements will be acknowledged as holding a current CPD status with the Institute. Current CPD status is mandatory for all Panel and List members.
