Conference ‘08 will take place at the stunning Montana Brancott Winery in Blenheim.   The Marlborough region is renowned as one of New Zealand’s premiere tourist destinations due to its boutique wineries and fine food, ready access to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, its tracks and walks, art and culture, and its stunning scenery.  The region offers an outdoor paradise, with native forests, trout-filled rivers, coastal tracks, sheltered bays for cruising and fishing, mountains and high backcountry.

The AMINZ conference is specially designed for dispute resolution professionals including plenary sessions and specialist streams for adjudication, arbitration and mediation on a wide range of topics and new approaches in effective dispute resolution.  The programme includes a mix of business sessions and social activities including a boat trip in the Malborough Sounds.

Greetings, Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Fakalofa Lahi Atu, Taloha Ni.

It is with regret that I am unable to attend the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand Annual Conference in Blenheim due to other commitments.

For more than 20 years AMINZ and its members have worked to promote and provide fair and efficient dispute resolution services that are of the highest professional standards.

Through my work as a lawyer, judge and ombudsman, I have seen first-hand how by getting people talking, and attempting to arrive at outcomes that are agreed upon, rather than imposed, there is a far better chance of a lasting agreement being reached.

As an ombudsman, I regularly employed more informal means of dispute resolution to resolve complaints between the public and central and local agencies.

A mediated and arbitrated resolution to a dispute not only costs less, but takes less time and is more likely to honoured by the parties in the long-term.

As Governor-General of New Zealand I extend by regards to everyone attending the AMINZ conference.

No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, kia ora, kia kaha, tena koutou katoa.

Hon Anand Satyanand, PCNZM, QSO
Governor-General of New Zealand

Hon Shane Jones MP will open the conference.
