AMINZ Breakfast Meeting Auckland

Avoiding conflict and improving dispute resolution for IT projects- with Gerard Doolin & Catherine Green

Software technology and its capabilities have evolved rapidly over the last 40 years. So have the platforms to deliver it – from server to desk top to laptop to smart phone. Ever accelerating evolution comes hand in hand with increasingly demanding expectations. We all want faster implementation times, lower costs, higher revenues, improved business outcomes and better user experiences.

Sadly, global research shows IT software projects are delivered successfully less than 30% of the time. IT software project failure often leads to contractual disputes between suppliers and customers.

Gerard Doolin and Catherine Green of the NZIAC have worked together to discover the main causes of IT project misalignment in New Zealand. They have spoken to key industry stakeholders about their experience of IT project contracting and DR methods. They have developed recommended neutral DR facilitative methods for various phases of a IT project as alternatives to unsuccessful party to party renegotiations or fault-based DR methods. Catherine and Gerard will present their recommendations at our Auckland breakfast on September 11.

Gerard Doolin is a New Zealand trained lawyer with 18 years specialized international experience in IT project negotiations and disputed projects. He now operates a specialized advisory offering for the IT sector.

Catherine Green is the Executive Director of the New Zealand International Arbitration Centre (NZIAC). She is also a barrister, arbitrator, adjudicator and mediator.

This session will be of interest to all ADR practitioners, along with lawyers practicing in the IT sphere – and their clients. All are welcome, membership of AMINZ is not required. Please feel free to bring along others who may be interested.
