AMINZ Arbitration Skills Intensive

Co-directed by AMINZ President Royden Hindle and AMINZ Council Member Nicole Smith, this three day course brings together some of New Zealand’s top practitioners in the field of arbitration. This course will be of interest to aspiring arbitrators, arbitrators wishing to refresh their knowledge or upskill, and lawyers, counsel and other parties involved in arbitration. Attendees will undertake a range of informative and practical sessions and workshops that will allow them to engage in an arbitral process confidently and effectively.

This year's programme includes:

  • The legal context and statutory framework for arbitration and an overview of the arbitration industry
  • Obligations of the Tribunal: Jurisdiction and source of powers of the arbitrator- with Fiona Tregonning
  • Commencement of arbitration; interim measures and emergency arbitrators- with Terry Sissons
  • The appointment and removal of the arbitrator/tribunal- with Paul Michalik
  • Running an arbitration hearing- with Ben Vanderkolk
  • The essentials of arbitration awards- with Tim Lindsay
  • The role and powers of the Court in arbitration- with Jeremy Johnson
  • An introduction to international arbitration- with Nicola Swan
  • Privacy and confidentiality
  • Practical exercises and writing workshops
