I am an Auckland barrister working exclusively as a mediator in commercial and interpersonal disputes. I have 37 years experience in dispute resolution, the last 25 have been primarily as a mediator. I have been recognized by Who’s Who since 2011 as one of the world’s leading mediators and I have been named in NBR in 2015 and 2016 as in the top 10 commercial and family mediators in New Zealand.
In addition to my private mediation work, I am on a number of statutory mediation panels including the Weathertight Homes Resolution Service, Health and Disability Commissioner, Domain Names Commission and I conduct employment mediations as a contractor to the Ministry of Business,Innovation and Employment.
I previously worked as a lawyer in both New Zealand and Hong Kong. I taught Mediation and Dispute Resolution at Auckland University Law School for 10 years and sat as a member of the Human Rights Review Tribunal from 2003 until 2010. I'm proud to be an Invited Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators , a Fellow Disciplinary Tribunal and Mediation Panel member of AMINZ, an assessor for FDR providers for AMINZ and an Advanced Panel member of the Resolution Institute. I have also held several Tribunal appointments which complemented my mediation practice.
I was a member of the Family Court Reference Group consulting with government on the Family Court Review in 2012, appointed by the Resolution Institute and AMINZ jointly to represent mediator interests.
In my 25 years mediation experience, I have become experienced in dealing with intractable parties, high emotion and conflict, diversity and multi parties. I regularly offer professional supervision to mediators and engage in peer supervision.
