Professional Experience

Margaret has had 24 years of experience providing mediation, facilitation and training to individuals, businesses, Government Departments and Schools both in New Zealand and the United States. She is also trained in Restorative Practice in education and employment.

In private practice since 1992, alongside her work as a Counsellor, Margaret has provided training through Lukey Training Resources to government departments and businesses. She has maintained a private practice in mediation, focussing on employment and family mediation. Whilst in the USA in 2001 she worked as Trainer for the New Mexico Centre for Dispute Resolution, the institute where she had done her initial training in 1989. Margaret is also part of Mediation Services in Christchurch. Margaret was a founder member of the Youth Mediation Initiative which operated in Christchurch in the early 90s and was also a member of the Conflict Partnership Service of Aotearoa. Personal Summary

Margaret has lived in New Mexico for a total of 12 years in the last 26 years and has worked as a counsellor in a low decile school for the last 18, so has a good understanding of cross cultural issues. She is a keen and still competitive runner currently President of her Club.

Background

Margaret started her professional career as a High School English teacher, retrained as a Counsellor, worked at both these jobs in the USA and retrained as a Mediator. On her return to NZ in 1991, she combined these backgrounds and has worked part-time as a Counsellor whilst developing her private practice in mediation and training.

Margaret has practiced and taught mediation both in New Zealand and the USA since 1989. She is also a trained Restorative Justice Facilitator. Alongside her part-time position as a Counsellor, Margaret has specialized in family and Employment Mediation and group facilitation. In her private practice she has mediated for Government Departments, Councils and Schools as well as private individuals. Currently she is also a Mediator for the Community Mediation Service. As the owner of a TC3 property and the landlord of a repaired one, Margaret is keenly aware of all the complex issues facing the residents of Christchurch in their struggle to recover.
