Member of the AMINZ national panel of mediators. Accredited RMA commissioner with chair endorsement (MfE). Chartered Fellow (Institute of Directors).

Dispute resolution practice, governance and business mentoring for the last 10 years. Hundreds of adjudications, dozens of mediations and numerous consultation and facilitation projects. Member of the AMINZ Panel of Mediators.

Has mediated contractual, employment and organisational disputes involving large sums of money and complex relational issues. Retirement villages and general elder disputes have been included. Environmental issues and disputes for city, district and regional councils. Up to 25 parties and 100 people have been included in some mediations.

Previously 30 years in the resource and general management fields.Certified by the Ministry for the Environment as an Independent Commissioner with chair endorsement. Extensive experience as an expert witness and in consultation and facilitation roles.

On the board of several companies and trusts and chair of some, operating in the fields of consulting, education, heritage, land development and primary industry.

Independent Commissioner holding appointments from various local and regional government bodies.

Chair of panel of mediators to whom disputes are referred within the 75,000+ member NZMCA. Advised on the setting up of the system, which serves mostly older people who own motorhomes and caravans.

Addressed the Retirement Villages Association on behalf of AMINZ regarding elder mediation, and conducted several elder mediations.

Personal Summary

Alan is a skilled facilitator of group sessions and is well versed in the arts of adjudication, consultation, facilitation and mediation. He has vast experience in such roles, has been described as having excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to facilitate resolution of difficult situations.


Alan has operated as a sole practitioner since 2003; facilitating resolution of employment, organisational and resource management disputes for private, public and not-for-profit organisations. He is also involved in company and trust formation, governance and management consulting.
