Kate Wiseman

Present Position

I am a barrister, mediator and FLA arbitrator, employed by Hon Robert Fisher QC.

Professional Experience

I completed a LLB(Hons) in 2014 and was admitted to the bar in 2015. Since then I have practiced as a barrister as well as mediator, specialising in trust and family financial law amid a more general civil practice. Where possible I prefer to help clients settle disputes out of Court, but I am glad the Courts are there to provide resolution when settlement is not possible. I have experience in the District, Family and High Courts as well as the Court of Appeal. I am a member of the AMINZ FLA Arbitrator List.

Career Summary

I worked in the commercial world for 20 years prior to moving to dispute resolution. I enjoyed a variety of roles during my business career, including management, marketing and sales. The work I did, particularly a long term role in business research, gave me insight into a wide range of industries, including manufacturing; primary industry (steel, mining, farming and aquaculture); professional and other services; advertising and marketing; FMCG; and building & construction.

Publications

Since becoming a dispute resolution professional I have presented to legal and dispute resolution conferences and seminars, including for AMINZ and the Criminal Bar Association. During my business career I regularly presented to many, varied business groups and companies.
