Mary Haggie is a barrister with in-depth knowledge and experience in construction law. She has acted for clients in multiple adjudications and debt recovery proceedings under the Construction Contracts Act 2002, and she advises clients on all aspects of the Act. She has undertaken adjudications in the role of adjudicator.
Mary worked for Kensington Swan from 2000 – 2016. She was a partner and leader of the highly successful and largest national construction law team at Kensington Swan from 2007 – 2016. In 2016, she decided to practice as an independent barrister with a focus on strategic advice for construction projects.
Mary has extensive experience in assisting clients to resolve construction disputes quickly and efficiently by direct discussion, negotiation, mediation or adjudication. She has also acted for clients in many High Court cases.
Mary also provides advice to parties at the front end of construction projects, including the appropriate procurement models, project structures and tendering. She drafts construction contracts, consultant conditions of contract, development agreements, funding agreements and bonds. She is highly experienced with all New Zealand’s standard-form construction contracts, including NZS 3910:2013, NZS 3916:2013, standard subcontracts, NZCCS and NZIA contracts.
