  • 27 February 2015

At last week’s ICC and AMINZ International Arbitration Day, the Attorney General Hon. Christopher Finlayson QC gave his support for a specialist arbitration panel in the High Court. He said, “I have to say I am very attracted to the proposal which has been mooted that there be a specialist arbitration panel, as in other jurisdictions”. Legislation enabling panels within the High Court is before the House as part of the Judicature Modernisation Bill which received a second reading on 17 February 2015. Later during the conference Hon. Justice Clyde Croft discussed how specialisation benefitted cases in Australia.

The Attorney General also took the opportunity to lend his support to New Zealand as a centre of international arbitration as did the Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce, Michael Barnett.

The Attorney General’s address was delivered by the Solicitor General, Mike Heron QC on behalf of the Attorney General.
