Gambling Commission Position
The Minister of Internal Affairs is seeking nominations of suitably qualified individuals for one position on the Gambling Commission.
The Gambling Commission
The Gambling Commission (the Commission) was established under section 220 of the Gambling Act 2003 (the Act). The Commission is an independent decision-making body with the powers of a Commission of Inquiry.
The Commission is a quasi-judicial body that hears and makes determinations about casino licensing applications and appeals on licensing and enforcement decisions in relation to gaming machines.
Membership
Five Commissioners, including the Chief Gambling Commissioner, are appointed by the Governor-General on the advice of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Terms are up to three years and Commissioners may be reappointed.
Gambling Commission Key Functions
The key functions of the Commission, under section 224 of the Act are:
• specifying, varying and revoking casino licence conditions;
• determining appeals against regulatory and licensing decisions made by the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) in relation to gaming machine operations and other gambling involving prizes of more than $5000;
• advising Ministers on the setting of the problem gambling levy;
• deciding on applications by the Secretary of Internal Affairs to suspend or cancel casino licences;
• determining applications for casino operators’ licences and the renewal of casino venue licences;
• approving agreements and changes to agreements between casino operators and casino venue licence holders;
• hearing complaints about the way the Department has handled complaints in relation to gambling activities; and
• advising the Minister of Internal Affairs on matters relating to the performance of the Commission’s functions and the administration of the Act.
Required Skills and Experience
• previous knowledge and experience in the gambling sector;
• knowledge and experience in business management;
• legal background;
• understanding of regulatory systems; and
• financial knowledge and experience.
Commitment and Remuneration
The workload for Commissioners is generally around 25 days per annum. The Commission is classified as a Group 2 Level 2 body (Statutory Tribunal) under the Cabinet Fees Framework. The daily rates are $475 per day for the Commissioners. Commissioners are also reimbursed for actual and reasonable expenses.

Workplace Investigators Expressions of Interest (Fair Way - kia tau)
Fair Way is looking for expressions of interest from dispute resolution professionals with significant experience in conducting investigations.
Fair Way – kia tau conduct numerous investigations annually, both ad hoc and contracted, for a range of organisations across Aotearoa New Zealand. Experienced investigators who wish to contract to Fair Way are a key part of our model, and we are pleased to offer this opportunity to join our growing investigator panel.
About this opportunity
Fair Way is seeking a diverse panel of investigators. This includes demographic and geographic diversity as well as experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
Workplace Investigators will be:
independent and professional, being contracted through Fair Way
licensed employment investigators with the Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority or will be exempt (for example, lawyers are exempt as they hold an appropriate practicing certificate under another Act)
able to demonstrate their experience and expertise in workplace investigations.
