AMINZ Mediation Skills Intensive | Online

  • Online via Zoom New Zealand (map)

Join us for our most popular course, the AMINZ Mediation Skills Intensive (AMSI), delivered fully online so you can take part from wherever you are.

This practical programme is designed to strengthen your mediation practice and conflict resolution skills. Through practical exercises, real-life scenarios and professional feedback, you’ll build the confidence to manage a wide range of mediation scenarios. Suitable for both new and experienced mediators, it offers a thorough and highly practical learning experience.

What To Expect:

AMSI is designed to build critical, transferable skills for managing conflict that you can apply in both professional and personal contexts. You’ll learn:

  • Effective conflict management strategies and practical skills for navigating people-related challenges.

  • Negotiation styles and how to work effectively with each, understanding the process of negotiation and its close relationship with mediation.

  • The mediation framework and the key pre-mediation and formative stages of the process.

Learning is reinforced through realistic practice scenarios and guided sessions led by experienced dispute resolution practitioners.

On completion of the programme, you will receive a certificate and 10 CPD points. (In Aotearoa New Zealand, there is no official compulsory qualification for practising as a mediator.)

“I can wholeheartedly recommend the one week online [AMSI] for imparting the skills and knowledge to, in my case, an arbitrator looking to expand their dispute resolution expertise. The course is a credit to AMINZ for getting the right people in the role of facilitator, such as Nicola, and the coaches, who attend for up to two days to guide and pass on practical knowledge, experience and knowhow.” - Phillip Curnow, AMSI Online 2025 Participant

Who Can Attend:

  • People at all levels of mediation experience – whether you’re just beginning your journey or already practising in the field; and

  • From a range of professions: including law, management, human resources, government, non-profit organisations, and the community sector.

This diversity enriches discussion, fosters collaboration, and deepens understanding of how mediation works across different contexts.

“I came into the AMSI course with no legal background and only a beginner’s understanding of mediation. By the end, I left feeling confident to run a mediation process, equipped with practical skills and a wealth of stories and insights to draw from. The learning environment was incredibly supportive—the group quickly became a tight-knit team, and the coaches were generous, approachable, and extremely helpful throughout. I’m so grateful for the experience.” - Matthew, AMSI Christchurch 2025 Participant
